Use your own Azure storage to keep your archived items in the data center of your choice.
This article guides you through the planning and implementation to connect your custom Azure storage to ShareGate.
For a comparison between the default storage included with ShareGate and custom Azure storage, see Azure storage options for archiving.

Note: Before setting up your own storage, start by reviewing the article How does using my own Azure storage account work?
Create a custom storage account
It is strongly recommended that you create an Azure storage account used exclusively by ShareGate.
Creating an Azure storage account for ShareGate ensures that other users within your organization do not delete or alter your archived items. If they do, there is a possibility they render it unusable.
To be compatible with ShareGate, your storage account needs to be the type General-purpose V1 or General-purpose V2.
We also suggest that you set the Access tier to Cool by default, to lower your costs.
If you set your storage account to LRS (for data replication), the Premium performance tier is not supported by ShareGate. Select the Standard performance tier instead.
For the storage Firewalls and virtual networks settings, it is best practice to allow access from All networks. Using Selected networks can impede ShareGate's validation process. Involve your networking team if your business needs require a Selected network.
Step 1 - Create your Azure storage account
This step is optional but highly recommended.
- Review Microsoft's detailed documentation on how to create your Azure storage account.
- When the storage account is created, open your newly created account and select Access keys in the Settings section to find the information required for Step 2 below.
Step 2 - Set up your Azure storage account in ShareGate
- Open the Teams management module.
- Select Settings from the sidebar.
- Select Storage.
- Click Setup your own Azure storage.
- Enter your Azure storage account name and Access key in the empty fields.
- Click Connect.
Note: Saved storage settings on your account are final. You won't be able to change storage settings later. If your business needs do change, get in touch with our support team---we'll work through this together.
